Over the course of the last five months, the Cohort’s process has helped us to clarify our financial goals, articulate our investment preferences, and expand our understanding of our financials.

“Success isn’t about how much money you make; it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.” ― Michelle Obama

For a long time, my wife, Kelly, and I believed that only wealthy people would benefit from having a financial advisor. Since we do not fall into the upper bracket of earners, our investments (meager as they are) were on auto-pilot. We were not thinking strategically about our money goals, aspirations, or the potential impact of our funds. We knew we wanted to align our values to make the most of our investments–especially since we don’t have a lot of money to invest–but how to do that was unclear.

Enter Revalue.

I learned about Revalue and their unique approach to values-driven investment services through my work at DO:BETTER, a design firm based in Michigan. Revalue has a variety of investment services for folks who do not have a lot of assets, like Kelly and me, but would:

a) Like to change that
b) Care about where those hard earned dollars are invested
c) Want to know about the impact they have on our world

The Revalue Collaborative Cohort is one of those programs: a six month program that gives participants access to Revalue’s advisory services and a series of community-focused workshops. Kelly and I applied for the Fall 2020 Cohort, and were pleased to join!

Over the course of the last five months, the Cohort’s process has helped us to clarify our financial goals, articulate our investment preferences, and expand our understanding of our financials. The Cohort onboarding process asked a lot of really deep questions that led to some very enlightening conversations around our attitudes about money, our dreams for the future, our risk tolerances, and other topics that we otherwise might not have broached.

Since joining, we’ve worked with the Revalue team to build an Investment Policy Statement (IPS) tailored just for us that will inform our investments moving forward. It feels amazing to be intentional about what our money plan is, and to see our values reflected in it. The monthly educational sessions also provided opportunities to connect with other Cohort members and deepen our financial knowledge.

At the root of this program, Revalue understands that your values matter just as much as the money you are putting alongside them. It’s empowering to have an investment strategy aligned with our values, as well as greater clarity as a couple around our financial goals–and an organization that genuinely cares about helping us manifest both.
